A Lot Clearer
By: Dasha Coutts

Bing! Bing! Bing! I wake up as I listen to my very annoying, white alarm clock. I hit the off button on my alarm clock, but unlike most people, I got up. The carpet was warm and fuzzy, and this year, I was excited, I was confident. Me, my sister, Paige, and my mom and dad travel a lot. So, I always go to different schools, most bad, some good. But I want this year to be good. "SOPHIA! Get up!" I heard my sister Paige yelled. "I AM up, Paige!" "Ok, just checking!" She replied. I slipped on my clothes, brushed my teeth and my hair, ran down the stairs and grabbed my lunch and my book bag. I got on my bike and got out of there!

When I got to my new school I was instantly amazed. My new school was huge... The school wasn't actually huge but the big brown doors made the school feel huge. But I had to keep walking because I was being pushed and pulled around by 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th graders. I kept walking and eventually I got to class. I sat in the back because... I was in a hurry and I wanted to make a good first impression. The lesson began and the teacher was introducing herself to us. "Hello students, welcome to Lake Blue Middle School, my name is Mrs. Mills..." While she was introducing herself I looked in my desk. The beige inside of my desk was plain. There was nothing inside except for a few words that I couldn't read because they were fading. "Sophia." I heard someone say. "Sophia... Blue is it?" I realized the voice was the teacher, Mrs. Mills. "Yes?" I asked. "Look up on the board, you've been doing this since kindergarten." She said. "Ok." I replied. The rest of the day was an enormous blur from that point on. The entire day I kept squinting and I realized I needed glasses...I figured I would tell Mrs. Mills at the end of the day. But it was the end of the day... What do I do?

Before I walking up to Mrs. Mills. I secretly texted Paige without anybody seeing, even though I was the only one in the room with Mrs. Mills. Everybody had gone home. "I'll be home late, I need to talk to my teacher." I sent the text. Breathe in, breathe out. Ok, here I go. "Mrs. Mills?" I asked. "Yes? Is that you Sophia?" "Yes, it's me, I was just going to tell you that I think I need glasses. I can't read faraway things." I said. "Sophia, listen. If that's what you need to learn, that's what you need to do." Mrs. Mills said with a smile. "I'll contact your mom right now!" "Ok, thanks Mrs. Mills, your the best teacher I've ever had!" I said. "Thanks, Sophia." She replied with a smile. I left the room with a grin on me face, when I thought I was out of sight from anyone... I did a little victory dance! I had did it!

"Sophia! Get in the car! We're going to the eye-doctor." My mom immediately told me when I got home. "Ok..." I said backing out of the doorway and in the car. I sighed, in the front seat I saw a picture of my dad, mom, Paige, and me. Paige had glasses. Green glasses... I never knew that about Paige... The picture was in some sort of beach, the background was a sunset and a beautiful ocean. By the picture I was that Paige was probably 6 and I was 3. Right now, I'm 13, and she's 16... I was about to get a closer look when my mom got in the car with me. "Ready Sophie?" She asked. I didn't reply. "Sophie, are you ready to get glasses? Mrs. Mills e-mailed me, so I think you need glasses right away." She said. "Yeah, I guess I'm ready..." I replied my mouth was dry with nervousness. I buckled in the car my mom and I left. I could here Paige shouting at me, she was  calling me my nickname. "Sophie!" I didn't know why she was shouting, but she had a pair of green glasses on. Exactly like she had them on in the picture in the car.

When me and my mom got there, the lady at the front desk asked me, "Name?" "My name is Sophia Blue." I replied. "Ok, wait right here." The lady said and she up and walked into a doorway. "Mom, I'm nervous..." I said to mom. "It's ok, she's really nice." She replied. "How do you know, you don't have glasses, do you?" I asked, with a really puzzled look on my face. "Did you really not know that I have contact lenses?" She said. "I didn't know that..." I said, still really confused. "But all you need to do is read sentences and she'll write it down." She replied, and then she gave me a hug.

A little while later, (I say that, it was more like 1 hour.) instead of the lady at the front desk, a red headed lady came out, she was wearing a doctors coat, sneakers, and had her hair in a ponytail. "Hello, are you Sophia Blue?" She asked. "Yep, that's me." I said. "Hello, I'm Mrs. Johnson, I'll be your waitress today, not really." She said with a smile. Right away I could tell that this would not as bad as I thought.

A little while later, me and my mom were still in the eye-doctors. My mom was reading a magazine, and I was picking out glasses. I looked in the mirror and smiled. I was wearing a pair of black glasses. Plus, I has picked out a light blue pair, not that it matters. I was satisfied. Me and my mom left and I had my new glasses on. The fall trees looked a lot brighter, isn't it amazing what glasses can do? Now, I can see the world a whole lot clearer.

Everybody Needs a Dog
By: Dasha Coutts

Sometimes people say, "I don't want a dog." Well, I disagree because I think that everybody needs a dog because you can do fun things with dogs, you will never get bored, and most of all, because dogs care about you.
Everybody needs a dog because you can do fun things with dogs. You can do fun things with dogs because they are always active and want to do everything with you. You can do fun things with dogs because they love playing with dog toys, and they especially love playing with people! You can do fun things with dogs because most dogs love traveling places, so you can always have fun traveling if you bring your dog with you!
Everybody needs a dog because you will never get bored. One time, I had nothing to do. I was just sitting on the couch. My dog, Musi came up to me and started wagging her tail like crazy. So, I got up and asked, "Do you want to play, Musi?" She kept wagging her tail. "I'll take that as a yes, Musi!" I said, and then we went to go play for a little while.
Everybody needs a dog because dogs care about you. One time, I hurt myself by dropping a rock on my foot. My dog, Musi had seen. She came running up to me and started cheering me up. She started licking my face, chasing her tail and trying to make me feel better. After that, I felt so much better, I was so glad she was there.

What people need to know is that everybody needs a dog, I certainly know that because of my dog, Musi. I think that everybody needs a dog because you can do fun things with dogs, you will never get bored, and most of all, because dogs care about you.
